Tint percentage is VLT — Visible Light Transmission, the light the film lets through. Lower = darker: 70% is nearly clear, 5% is limo. The right answer for Demarest balances three things: New Jersey law, night driving, and the look you want.
Start with what's legal in New Jersey
New Jersey allows no aftermarket film on front side windows — so your choices live behind the driver (any darkness on back sides, any darkness on the rear). Many drivers add a legal windshield-area strip and a high-VLT ceramic layer where allowed for heat.
What each shade is like to live with
Low winter sun, summer heat waves, and long commutes make ceramic tint one of the highest-comfort-per-dollar upgrades a driver here can make. With ceramic film, heat rejection comes from the technology, not the darkness — so pick the shade for law and look, and let the film handle comfort.
| VLT | The experience |
|---|---|
| 70% | Invisible; pure heat/UV rejection — the ceramic-film cheat code for strict fronts |
| 50% | Barely-there smoke; glare relief, clearly legal look |
| 35% | The classic — visibly tinted, still easy eye contact and night vision |
| 20% | Dark; strong privacy, workable at night for most drivers |
| 5% | Limo; dramatic but genuinely hard in dark parking lots |
