Ceramic Coating vs Wax in Washington: What Actually Survives Ferndale?

Wax and ceramic coating do the same job — sacrificial protection over your clear coat — on wildly different timescales. In a climate like Ferndale's, the difference isn't subtle.

Ferndale drivers know the drill: eight months of wet roads spraying a film of oily grime onto every panel, tree sap and organic fallout wherever you park, and then a summer that's sunnier than Washington's reputation admits. Clear coat here doesn't fail dramatically — it dulls slowly under constant moisture and the UV nobody thinks they're getting through the clouds.

Head to head

When it rains most of the year, hydrophobics change car ownership: water sheets off, road film doesn't bond, and washing takes half the time. The coating also blocks the UV that quietly works through overcast skies.

Who should still wax

Enthusiasts who genuinely enjoy the ritual, show cars that get pampered anyway, and anyone not ready for the coating's upfront cost. Wax isn't wrong — it's just a subscription, and Washington weather cancels it every couple of months.
